03. SERIAL NUMBER & AUTHENTICITY
How CHANEL has identified its pieces over the years, and what to look for inside the bag.
01. SERIAL STICKER
Description
A sticker displaying the serial number, typically affixed to the interior of the bag.
Era
Included with products manufactured up until around 2021.
Why it matters
The number of digits and the design vary by production era, making it a crucial factor in authenticity verification.
02. AUTHENTICITY CARD
Description
A card featuring gold-colored edging and the same serial number found on the bag.
Era
Issued alongside the serial sticker.
Current status
Discontinued around 2021; these are no longer issued.
03. IC CHIP
Description
The latest verification system, introduced around 2021 to replace the serial sticker.
Era
Approximately 2021 onward.
Mechanism
An IC chip is embedded in a small metal plate inside the bag. A unique product code can be read by scanning the plate, possible only with dedicated store terminals.
